## How to use

1. Enter your run time (hours, minutes, seconds).
2. Enter the distance you ran.
3. Choose **min / mile** or **min / km** for your preferred pace unit.
4. Click **Calculate Pace**.
5. See your pace, speed in mph and kph, and projected finish times for four race distances.

## Formula

**Pace (min/unit) = Total time (min) ÷ Distance**

**Speed (mph) = 60 ÷ Pace (min/mile)**

**Speed (kph) = 60 ÷ Pace (min/km)**

**Projected finish (min) = Pace × Race distance**

## Worked example

**30 minutes for 3.107 miles (5K):**

- Pace = 30 ÷ 3.107 ≈ 9.657 min/mile → **9:39 per mile**
- Speed = 60 ÷ 9.657 ≈ **6.21 mph** (10.00 kph)
- Projected marathon = 9.657 × 26.219 ≈ **253.2 min → 4:13:12**

## Notes

Projected finish times assume a constant pace. Real race times slow with fatigue, especially in the half marathon and marathon. Use these projections as a starting point, not a guarantee.

## Frequently asked questions

### How is running pace calculated?

Pace equals total time in minutes divided by distance. For a 30-minute 5K (3.107 miles), pace = 30 ÷ 3.107 ≈ 9 minutes 39 seconds per mile.

### What is a good running pace?

It depends on the runner. Recreational runners often average 10–12 min/mile. Competitive runners aim for 6–8 min/mile. Elite marathoners run under 4:45 per mile. Run at a pace that feels comfortably challenging to you.

### How do I convert pace to speed?

Speed (mph) = 60 ÷ pace (min/mile). For a 10:00/mile pace, speed = 60 ÷ 10 = 6 mph. For kph, convert miles to km first or use speed (kph) = 60 ÷ pace (min/km).

### How are projected finish times calculated?

The calculator uses your current pace and multiplies by each race distance. This assumes you maintain the same pace throughout. A race prediction model (like Riegel's formula) would account for the fact that you slow slightly over longer distances.

### What are the standard race distances?

5K = 3.107 miles, 10K = 6.214 miles, half marathon = 13.109 miles (21.098 km), marathon = 26.219 miles (42.195 km).
