## Conversion factors (relative to kg/m³)

| Unit | kg/m³ equivalent |
|------|-----------------|
| kg/m³ | 1 |
| g/cm³ | 1 000 |
| g/L | 1 |
| kg/L | 1 000 |
| lb/ft³ | 16.0185 |
| lb/in³ | 27 679.9 |
| lb/gal (US) | 119.826 |
| oz/ft³ | 1.00115 |
| t/m³ | 1 000 |
| slug/ft³ | 515.379 |

## Worked example

Water at 4 °C has a density of **1 g/cm³**.

Converting to kg/m³: 1 × 1 000 = **1 000 kg/m³**

Converting to lb/ft³: 1 000 ÷ 16.0185 ≈ **62.43 lb/ft³**

## Notes

- g/cm³ and g/mL are equivalent units (1 cm³ = 1 mL).
- g/L and kg/m³ are also equivalent — both equal 1 in the base conversion.
- Conversion factors follow NIST Guide to the SI (2008), Appendix B.

## Frequently asked questions

### How does the density converter work?

Every unit is first converted to the base unit (kg/m³) by multiplying by a fixed factor, then divided by the target unit's factor to get the result.

### What is the density of water?

Pure water at 4 °C has a density of 1 g/cm³, which equals 1000 kg/m³ or 1 kg/L.

### What is g/cm³ in kg/m³?

1 g/cm³ = 1000 kg/m³. To convert, multiply g/cm³ by 1000.

### What is a slug per cubic foot?

The slug is a unit of mass in the imperial system. One slug per cubic foot equals approximately 515.379 kg/m³.

### What units are supported?

kg/m³, g/cm³ (= g/mL), g/L, kg/L, lb/ft³, lb/in³, lb/gal (US), oz/ft³, t/m³, and slug/ft³.
